Great boast, small roast!

In a dire attempt to chill out while talking about the next spicy story, V3 were on the lookout for a good coffee shop. “Great, let’s head off to the hotel nearest to the WTC and enjoy the views of Galle Face,” piped Shaz, who was now desperate to relax her tired legs after pacing about with the gang.

“Yes, what a hot day - I need a drink,” groaned Sachi, who had beads of sweat trickling down his forehead. “True,” muttered Ruwi, fanning herself automatically.

When bonds blow up in smithereens!

Lo and behold, it was Sachi’s birthday!

Being a good sport and celebrating in style his wish was to bring his closest allies and V3 together at their favourite coffee hangout. Only Nalaka in the neighbouring department could make it. They were so engrossed in the merriment that they completely forgot to place the order until a good natured waiter showed up to get orders from their ‘regular customers’.

Fed and Flagged!

The chirpy V3 gang was innocently sauntering into office when they saw everyone in a celebratory mood with many Sri Lankan flags flying high. Upon seeing V3, their colleagues tried to force-feed milkrice and cake. “Mmm…” went Sachi, munching and trying to digest the sweetmeats.

“Everybody’s rejoicing as the Government had secured a victory against the LTTE. It’s amazing how our third world country could defeat the one of the world’s most ruthless terrorist organizations,” said Shaz, cutting a piece of cake.

A Very V3 Vesak!

"He is always like that. Always getting late and see we have to discuss V3 too. Worst of all he doesn't pick up the phone." Ruwi sounded irritated, while adjusting the 'una' bamboo sticks on the skeleton of her star-shaped Vesak lantern.

"Don't worry, Ruwi, he'll be here soon. Can you please pass the gum?" Shaz was immersed with her Vesak lantern which was supposed to resemble a lotus flower.

The hot stuff

"Hot!" said Sachi that perked the attention of Ruwi and Shaz who had been busy trial testing the delicious pizzas at the opening of the 'Regina Margherita' outlet at Urban Kitchen.

"Who? The waitress who served you or the pizza?," inquired Shaz with a wink, serving herself a slice of a delicious pizza called 'Chef Luigi loves Sri Lanka'.

Scrambling for a Scrabulous success!

Plop!

V3 and Mr G were on their way to WTC when a soft sound and a howl of displeasure from Shaz drew their attention. Screwing her face with distaste, Shaz displayed a brownish blob that had landed on her arm while strolling under a shady tree.

“Yuck! How disgusting,” she exclaimed, gingerly holding out the arm from her body as far as she could manage.

Forbidden territories

“Parents should study about child rearing or planning. It isn’t a matter of how many babies you decide to have but the best way to raise a child. Kids love doing what they want on impulse and some parents brand certain topics as ‘taboo’ without explanation”

Original dream

“Doctors... engineers... and more doctors,” Ruwi was muttering as she went through the notes of her interview she had with a group of children from a school in the city. Shaz picked up her ears and gave Ruwi a sideway glance as she leafed through a copy of the Daily News ‘Zoom’.

What’s the fuss about the bus?

The halt is filled with gossip-mongers on a sultry day fanning themselves when V3 get there. No wonder, V3 got to the street at the worst hour - office time. In a little while, a bus lags along that is on the verge of falling down.

Space to air views

‘Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?’ writes Shaz on the mirror wall - or bulletin board rather - that is stationed at their favourite coffee hangout.

“We should write ‘V3 WAS HERE’” Says Ruwi. V3 can see Sachi’s mind drifting by the glazed look on his face.

IT bugs

V3 had to take some time off the usual hectic schedule to discuss the column. Sachi is on the swivel chair, toying with the keyboard, when Shaz and Ruwi join in.

Get your attitude right!

It was a travel packed week for V3. First Shaz zooms off to Sigiriya followed by a long arduous journey to icy Hunnasgiriya. No sooner the poor girl returns with cramps and a cold Ruwi and Sachi were packed off to Galle just in time for the Literary Festival. After working to our bones for the Daily News Independence Day Supplement V3 had to hasten to Trans Asia to meet a media liaison hoping to take some journalists up to Dambulla.

Go V3

Trying to start a new column is rather difficult, especially when you ‘need’ something to spice and spruce up the otherwise monotonous Daily News features section. Deciding on a name wasn’t THAT difficult but what beat the sense out of us was how were we to embark on this magnanimous journey where you’d try to infuse a bit of pun, a colour of glamour and a reason for our loyal readers to bring a smile on their faces. “What we plan to do is bring out a column that will offer ‘light-hearted’ reading.” This was actually stated by our gracious editor who said that ‘we need columns of this genre’.

Hope this does the trick!
